Saga Lands

(2011-2014)

As the word ‘saga’ refers to both ‘history’ and ‘story’, the images from Saga Lands reveal the documentary and narrative potential of landscape photography. Taking inspiration from Icelandic saga literature – the most extensive literary source on the history of early European exploration – I spent several years photographing archaeological and saga sites throughout the North Atlantic, resulting in a series that traces a westward journey from Scandinavia to the New World.
